(Ambystoma tigrinum)
Information
The Tiger salamander is a mole salamander, and is a large (over
a foot long when fully grown)
semi-aquatic salamander. They are largely terrestrial salamanders,
they do however enter the water
to soak and to mate, breed and to deposit their eggs. They
prefer cooler temperatures 60 to 70 degrees F.
They can live up to 18 years.
Breeding and Mating
The female deposit about 250 eggs divided into as many as 15 small
packets that she places
in aquatic plants or pebbles. The eggs must be separated from the
adults for incubation and hatching.
