(Ambystoma opacum)
Information
The spotted salamander is a mole salamander, and are largely terrestrial
salamanders
they do however enter the water to soak and to mate, breed and
to deposit
their eggs. They requires a large semi-aquatic aquarium with deep
water and a
land side. They prefer cooler temperatures 60 to 70 degrees F.
Breeding and Mating
The female deposit it´s eggs in a damp, terrestrial depression
or nest in the fall.
The female then guards her eggs (about 75) until rainfall creates
a puddle in the nest.
Shortly thereafter, the larvae hatch. The metamorphosis takes four
to five months.
