(Cynops pyrrhogaster)
Information
The fire-bellied newt comes from Japan and lives on the japanese
islands, Hondo, Shikoku and Kyoshu
and they can live up to 6-10 years. Their lenght is approximately
9-12 cm. The fire-bellied newt is a
non-aggresive specie, and can live with other species of newts
or frogs without problems.
Food
They eat tubifex worms, small pieces of frosen meat, and frosen
mosqutio worms,
small worms and small fruit flies.
Keeping and Breeding
The fire-bellied newt is a semi-aquatic specie. They breed during
spring time
and the female lays her eggs one by one on wet places. Depending
on the
temperature the larvae hatch in 2 - 4 weeks and in 90 - 120 days
the
larvae becomes an newt. Breeding is very easy with this specie,
but the larvae must be in an separate aquarium to survive.
