Abstract
Rehabilitation professionals working with individuals with visual impairments frequently encounter clients who display symptoms of depression. The rehabilitation professional must know how to distinguish among the various causes, types, combinations, and manifestations of depression, as well as develop treatment plans that both address the symptoms and the causes of depression. In this article, there is a description of depression associated with vision loss, depressive disorders likely to be present in the rehabilitation setting, and suggestions for recognizing symptoms of depression and developing strategies to manage the depression.
