Human Time Line

A History of the Homo Intelligens People

Prologue

The discovery of a new human species came, ironically, as a shock to Homo Luminous. The so called wise & intelligent Human species, even though corporeal, had no idea that this new species was in their back yard. It was only by chance that an environmental satellite had spotted a group of Humans camping where they should not.

Planetary security forces wanted to arrest the interlopers immediately, but Earth’s UDF commander, General Monash, noticed an anomaly in the satellite’s data. Although it clearly reported its finding as Human, it could not identify any particular individual or, for that matter, known specie. General Monash thus put a hold on any action by the local security force & called in UPX.

Upon being informed of this irregular situation, UPX was more than happy to inquire into whatever it was wondering around Central Africa National Park. Only non-corporeal species would be deployed on this mission, most notably Homo Spiritous. It was an odd reality of the Federation, that a superior species such as Homo Spiritous would be reporting to a Homo Luminous. But such were the modern day realities of a democratic federation.

The report from UPX was thorough. Without doubt it was a new Human species that had been classified as Homo Intelligens. Earth’s Governor, Fran Loleichster (Luminous), could not believe it. Nor could the planetary cabinet that had been recalled for this emergency. Discussion soon started with few answers concluded.

"You know what this means", suggested Edward Moreshell (Luminous), "We’ll have to seriously consider leaving Earth to make way for these new Humans."

Almost everyone immediately disagreed at once, although Governor Loleichster remained quiet observing the discussion.

Regardless of the protests, "The UFP, especially Homo Spiritous, did it so that we could develop, so we are likewise indebted to do the same."

Still many others protested. Sam Locous (Luminous) was typical by replying, "That was a completely different situation as Homo Spiritous was non-corporeal. They required no intensive effort in moving 6 billion inhabitants elsewhere in the federation. We, on the other hand, must do that, not forgetting that an entire new planet must house Earth’s current population. And that’s another thing, there isn’t any vacant planets floating out there just waiting to be colonised by 6 billion people."

Locous’s argument was exactly on the mark. There was no current location where all the inhabitants of Earth could really go. Maybe a billion or so could be found a new home, but not all of them. Then there was the problem of people not wanting to move. And Governor Loleichster was one of them.

Before Loleichster could say anything, Ayesha Akbar asked, "Could we just keep this new species in the National Park & then slowly expand it as they likewise expand?"

Martin Minchin, Minister for the Environment, answered, "Well inevitably we’ll run out of room Ayesha. Like if they’re anything like us, they’ll be knocking on your front door within ten years asking for directions. I’m afraid it’ll be impossible to keep Homo Intelligens confined for long. I suggest that we study them thoroughly, learn their language, then arrange a low risk First Contact."

Many of the others agreed. Governor Loleichster, although agreeing with Minchin, added, "I hope, so. Although I’m not sure what we’ll say to them. I don’t think ‘. Hello there. We’re a highly advanced space travelling corporeal Human specie, they are not gods but non-corporeal Human specie, & you’re an archaic primitive one. Welcome to planet Earth & an interstellar multi-specie federation’, will work somehow."

"I don’t think I’ll add that ‘You’re not who you think you are: you’re really Homo Intelligens’. I just hope they don’t call themselves Terrans: that’ll make ten peoples calling themselves that throughout the Federation!"

Most gave a polite laugh. Minichin added, "I wonder if they’ll answer ‘Can we have fries with that’?" Now this did get a good laugh. Minichin often wondered since his youth why every fast food outlet had staff that always asked that. He was not the only one.

It did not, however, solve what was a very serious problem. Clearly the whole UFP would have to be involved.
