• HTML Primer.
• A good list of links about design since once you've got the basics of how HTML works, you may want to play a bit to make your page distict and personal (if not beautiful),
• Yale Library's page on teaching & technology,
• Yale's help page.
• Some of the clip art stuff.
• More gif files, for backgrounds.
• Yet more gifs.
• A good utility to try out color combinations & get the codes.
• More backgrounds, etc.
• Virtual Background Museum.
• Netscape's Backgrounds.
• This (rather coolly annoying!) background from Jeffrey Zeldman Presents.

Also, the most basic possible template for what an HTML document needs.
