When Friends are More Than Friends

When friends are more than friends
The situation is unique.
It is something very special
To say the very least.

Friendship isn't all that's there,
But what is there
We can't say for sure.

Because when friends are more than friends
A fine line has been drawn.
We can't be together, we can't be apart,
And the friendship must go on.

Life was simpler,
But can we say better, the way things were before?
And now that friends are more than friends
There are facts we can't ignore.

Why must you break my heart
And why must I strain yours?
And what keeps us from being torn apart
In this emotional tug-of-war?

And is it just chance,
Or is there a reason this is where we must begin?
Why must friends break each other's hearts
When friends are more than friends?
