On the ride, Vacuumboy recieved an unexpected visitor in the back seat of the squad car. "So," said Barney the Putrid, "How does it feel now that you're going to have the past thrown back in your face. All that reminiscing earlier, and now you would give anything just to have the past go away." "What?" asked Vacuumboy quietly (he was afraid the officers would think he was talking to himself, and he wasn't sure the insanity plea was the way he wanted to go). "I didn't do those things, so how can my past be coming back to haunt me?" "Much of the law is interpretation, and it's not just yourself that you're standing trial for, you also have to deal with what the others have done. Manslaughter is especially open to interpretation. It was a member of your team, though now departed, who killed Valenn. Your team was responsable for my death. And the Hunter killed several back when he was just a nutral rampager. Vandalism, how about BJ's rampage at the Spring Break-Out last year. I could go on, but I'll save some of the surprises for the trial. I'll be watching." ================================================================================ >:::The following added 1998/11/07 18:27 by JY01STU >:: Vacuum boy I hate Dr. Clark!!!! "I guess then I'll be nice and give you a hint as to who is behind all of your troubles right now." "You will? That's great! What's the hint?" "The hint is... Back to the Future II." "What's that?" Vacuumboy asked with a perplexed look on his face. "It's a movie," said Barnie. "Michael J. Fox, christopher Lloyd. Didn't you see it?" "Michael J. Who? I hate watching movies. There are about a billion things I would rather do than sit and watch a dumb movie," Vacuumboy said. "come on, give me another clue." "Sorry no can do," said Barnie. BJ and chet had just gotten off the phone with the Media Watchdog and their discussion with them had been very enlightening. "Well, now we KNOW for sure that there has to be someone framing us," said BJ. "What do you mean, us?" said Chet. "I just joined this group and I'm sure I'm not involved in these charges." "Look, RecklessBoy, you're either with us or you're against us," said the Goalie II. He raised his hockey stick menacingly in the air and swung it at Chet. "And you don't want to be against us, 'cause you might get hurt." BJ held the blade of his stick close to Chet's neck. "You're right," said Chet. "Someone is trying to frame us. And now we have proof. From what the Media Watchdog just told us, we might not know who is doing it, but we know for sure that it is a frame-up. we need to get this information to VB." "I'll call Progger and have him pick us up in the Lovechicken and take us to the trial," said BJ. The Progger had been on patrol as usual, simply floating above Cape at a height of about one mile so that he could see anything unusual when he noticed lights flashing around him. His first thougth was that it must be just a meteor shower, that were suppose to occur around this time of year, after all. "They're actually kind of pretty," thought the Progger to himself, taking his eyes off the view screen to watch through the window. Suddenly the Love Chicken began to shake at the exact moment that two important facts struck the Progger. "Wait a minute, you normally can't see meteors during the day, and besides the meteor shower was suppose to have been days ago. Ohhhh, what hit the Love Chicken. Those aren't meteors, they're laser blasts." The Progger looked back at the view screen and the radar to find that he was surrounded by small vessels armed with laser cannons, one of which seemed to have attached itself to the Love Chicken near a port. "Uh Oh, the door's open, someone is here with me...aghhhh, let me go, what do you want." "You'll know soon enough," said the mysterious figure who still hadn't let the Progger see him. "This blind fold and these ropes should contain you for a while. At least until we get you and the Love Chicken where we're going." And with that the Progger was blindfolded, bound, gagged, and strapped to the co-pilot's seat without ever seeing his attacker. "Progger, we found something out, come to Towers and pick us up, BJ and Chet out," came the message from the radio. "Hope they're doing better than me," thought the Progger... ================================================================================ >:::The following added 1998/11/21 18:50 by JY01STU >:: Vacuum boy I hate Dr. Clark!!!! Meanwhile, Vacuumboy was being brought into the courtroom where he would stand trial as the representative for the superhero community. The courtroom was packed with hundreds of studnts and several members of the surrounding community. All were screaming for his blood as the baliff brought him down to his bench. Already seated at the bench wearing a three-piece suit was the Hunter. "what are you doing here? And why are you dressed like that?" said Vacuumboy as he sat down. "We're your court-appointed legal represntation," Jared explained. "We?" VB asked. "Yes, we," said a voice coming from behind the Hunter's briefcase that sat upright on the table. Jared moved it to the floor and revealed that Murray also sat on the table, wearing a bowtie around his neck. "My major's pre-law, remember?" "Well, so what's going on now?" asked VB. "The judge has already read the charges against you, which range from destruction of property to petty theft to accessory to murder. You know they actaully blame you for four or five of the times the Progger has died?" Murray said increduously. "That's crazy!" VB said to him. "None of that was my fault! Villains did it, not us! We stopped those villains from doing more destruction!" "Yes, well, apparently their case is that we should have done more to prevent these things from happening. Also there is speculation on the part of the prosecution that we are either an indirect cause or are directly responsible for some of it," Murray continued. "yeah," said the Hunter. "they say that if we weren't around, fewer villains would attack the campus." "And they claim that we could be directly responsible for the pizza aliens that Billy and I killed while you guys were in space," said Murray. "The whole deal with the Gazette seems to be the focal point of their case. They say that they have evidence that you destroyed their presses because they were anti-admin." "That's just absurd!" The judge banged his gavel and called the trial to order. "Would the prosecuting attorney, Mr. Wrangler, please call your first witness?" The man who VB recognized as the leader of the mob that tried to beat him up stood and said, "yes, your honor. I would like to call Dr. Nowhere to the stand!" ================================================================================ >:::The following added 1998/11/22 15:53 by KR53STU >:: The Hunter Gamma Delta Iota...Once you lose it, it's gone... "I object," stated the Hunter, jumping to his feet. "On what grounds?" asked the judge. "There's been no testimony." "I object to the calling of Dr. NoWhere as a witness," said the Hunter. "Why, and this better be good." replied the obviously annoyed Judge Pelfrey. "This cannot be the true Dr. NoWhere," answered the Hunter. "Why not?" asked Pelfrey impatiently. "Because we left him in another dimension as the captive of a group of petty and cruel beings dressed like druids who planned to make Dr. NoWhere and the other villains fight for the purpose of amusemnt." "Yes, it is true," answered Dr. NoWhere from the witness stand although everyone had assumed he was still outside waiting to be brought in. "However," the disembodied voice continued, "we, uh I mean I, escaped." "So noted," stated the Judge. "Wanton abandonment, accessory to kidnapping, and accessory to torturous behavior, and...did any of your group die in this other dimension, Dr.?" "Yes, quite often." replied the Dr. "...and involuntary manslaughter will be added to the list of charges." "So noted," said the court recorder. "Good job," Murray said to the Hunter. Vacuum Boy just sat in shock. Meanwhile, the Progger and the Love Chicken had been brought to their destination. The Progger felt the Love Chicken come to a stop, and he then felt himself being untied. As he was being moved, his blind- fold slipped down and he saw his captor's arm. Wrapped around the wrist and bearing the words "The Label Makers completely loyal and trustworthy minion" was a thin plastic label. "Ok, Jared," said a very annoyed Vacuumboy under his breath. "From now on, Murray does all the talking." "No problem," said the Hunter. Suddenly the wall of the courtroom was destroyed by a laser blast. Everyone turned to the now gaping hole in the wall to see the Lovechicken sitting outside. A voice came from the loudspeakers on the outside of the vehicle. It said "Guys, it's me, Progger! I'm busting you out of here! I'm tired of pretending to care about this university, sitting idly by while other people tell us what to do. Come with me so we can take over!" Vacuumboy turned to Murray. "That's not the Progger's voice!" he cried. Meanwhile, the Progger sat aboard the Lovechicken, slowly regaining consciousness. His blindfold having now come completely off, he could see that there were now two people on board the Lovechicken. He recognized them instantly. It was the Labelmaker and ^! They had yet to realize that the Progger was conscious, because they were too busy at the controls of the Lovechicken. ^ was speaking into a small alarm clock that he held in his hand. Atop the clock was a label that read, "Device that simulates the way the Progger sounds and projects it outside to everybody." The Labelmaker was sitting at the weapons control ready to fire on the courtroom. The Progger knew he had to act fast. Back in the courtroom Vacuumboy sat withthe Hunter and Murray immobile at their table. The voice from the Lovechicken cried out to them again. "Come on, guys! I'm helping you escape! Let's go take over the school!" "No!" the Hunter shouted back. "You're not the Progger! You may sound like him, but you're not really him! We're not going anywhere with you! You're just trying to frame us!" Suddenly the prosecutor jumped to his feet. "They're lying!" he cried to the judge. "They staged this whole event to make them look innocent! Do you need anymore proof?" On board the Lovechicken the Progger had finally come up with a plan to save the day. He noticed a spare Progg blaster sitting beside his chair. Slowly he reached down beside his chair and picked up the weapon without being noticed. He carefully leveled the gun upon his prey and quietly fired. "What the hell?" said ^ as he noticed out of the corner of his eye that the Progger had just committed suicide. Suddenly the Lovechicken's CD player sprang to life. Anew Progger appeared standing right beside the Labelmaker. Catching him off guard, theProgger stole the Labemaker's gun and shot a label reading "Incapacitated villain" onto each of his captors. In the courtroom, the loudspeakers captured ^'s exclamation of surprise and played the rejuvenating Cd loudly when it went off. Now the real Progger could be heard to say over the loudspeaker, "Hold on, everybody! I'm coming out!" Moments later the Progger climbed out of the vehicle with each of the two villains draped over a shoulder. "these are the true villains! They're responsible for the frame-up!" "He's lying!" Buddy Levi Wrangler Jr., the prosecutor, screamed. "They planned this whole thing to make themselves appear..." "Oh, can it, ya moron!" said Chet as he entered the courtroom with BJ. "We're onto you!" The Goalie II addressed the judge. "Your honor, we have proof that it is a frame-up! The Sprigg street Gazette was not destroyed by Vacuumboy! It just got a new editor that decided to take a long time to produce another issue. And that editor is the supervillain UHT!!!!" "Where did you come across this information?" asked the honorable Jim Pelfry. "I gave it tothem, sir," said the MEdia Watchdog who followed them in. "And I have more information that might shed some light on this whole fiasco. Buddy Levi Wrangler Jr. has been committing these crimes! DPs just discovered that his fingerprints are a match for those found at the scene of the small fires set in the Towers!" "YES!" shouted Buddy. "It's true! I'm behind it all! I planned to discredit the heroes of this university with the help of Villainous Punch!" "Who?" Chet asked him. "Shut up," he replied. "I'm trying to reveal my now-thwarted master plan. Anyway, I would cause all of your heroes to be run out of this university and then I planned to defeat these villains recently escaped from that other dimension and reveal myself as a superhero, claiming my rightful place as the only protector of Cape Girardeau!" "But why?" Vacuumboy asked. "What did you have against us?" "Don't you get it yet?" Buddy Levi Wrangler Jr. shouted. "I am the son of the Denim Denizen!" "Of course!" said Jared. "I should have guessed it earlier. Wrangler. Levi. Buddy, as in Buddy Lee. It's all too obvious." "Yeah, well, no one ever claimed your powers of deduction were that great," BJ responded. "But you haven't foiled all my plans yet! I still have a trick or two up my sleeve," he shouted. With a wave of his mighty hand the Denim Denizen Jr. suddenly made a pair of dungarees appear covering the faces of everyone in the courtroom. By the time everyone was free, he was gone. "Now what?" Vacuumboy asked his fellow heroes. "Now we figure out how this guy even exists," said the Progger. "I mean, the Denim Denizen died before he had any kids. And even if he had one in secret, the kid would still be a kid, not a college student." "No," the Goalie II said. "the first thing we do is find him and these other villains he's with and bust their heads!" "Yeah!" shouted the Hunter. "No," responded Jim Pelfry. "The first thing you're going to do is answer these charges." "Your honor, I think we've shown here today that this whole trial was just a charade," said the Media Watchdog. "Yes," replied Murray, still decked out in his full lawyer regalia, the bowtie. "I move for dismissal." "On what grounds?" asked the judge. "Well, your honor," Murray responded. "I may just be a severed head, but I do know this: my client is not guilty." Jim Pelfry considered it for a minute, and then banged his gavel. "You've convinced me. Case dismissed." "WOO-HOO!" shouted Vacuumboy. "But some of those charges were actually valid," the Hunter said. "Shut up, you!" Vacuumboy waved his fist at him menacingly. "Phew!" Murray sighed. "I need a drink!" The heroes began to walk toward the Lovechicken to take it back to the air in search of the villains. Murray was picked up by Vacuumboy. "Thanks for getting me off the hook!" Vacuumboy said to him. "How about I buy you a drink?" "Sure," Murray said as they climbed aboard the vehicle. "Why didn't we feel it at Towers then?" "Yeah," said Murray. "Or hear more about it on the news?" "There are at least 20 earthquakes along the New Madrid fault every month, and most of them aren't very serious," explained the Progger. "A 3.4 isn't that much." "But the odd thing about this one," said the Media Watchdog, "is that it was incredibly localized. The tremor could only be felt in the park itself. And there were not aftershocks."
