Here's a happy rant. At least in part. I've finished my first week of graduate school. My second if you count TA training. The last two weeks have been a blast. I've made a lot of friends. Some are clinical psychology students, some are experimental, some are counseling like me, and a few are undergraduates. Interestingly enough, 3 out of the five undergrad TAs are older than me. The undergrads have been a great help. They've been showing the grad students areound town. I'm finding out where the good cheesecake is and which coffee houses are best early. I plan to do a guide to Carbondale similar to the Progger's guide to Cape in the near future. I've met once with both sections of my class. This is going to be interesting. I also had a reminder of what a small world it is when I found out that one of my students has dated Steve's (or Vacuumboy's) brother, Nate.

I am, of course, facing issues with the female population of Carbondale, but that is to be expected, at least if you're me, which I am. The girl I am most attracted to isn't an option, and the other girl I would like to ask out is most likely incompatable and quite likely taken (since I saw her on the strip with another guy tonight). I should probably just choose to be single for x amount of time, but then life would be so boring.

Back to the happy stuff. I'm having no trouble fitting in here at all. The TAs had a party last Friday night. This Friday night the second year counseling students threw a party for us first years. During TA training a large group of us had lunch together nearly every day. In a couple of weeks, there is suppose to be a get together for the entire counseling program. The professors here are great, and so are the other students.

I guess that what it all boils down to is that I'm really starting to like Carondale. I'll always have a soft spot for Cape, and I'm not going to forget any of you from that side of the Mississippi. However, the transition is going to be easier than expected. Plan on the next rant being an unhappy one for balance, but I'll probably be doing updates like this occassionally, too. Maybe under a title like the SIU Chronicles, or maybe just here.
