William Wiley Leggett b.10-30-1833 Ms. d.5-27-1898 Ms. is burried in Cayauga Methodist Church Cemetery in Hinds Co. Ms on old Port Gibson Rd. He Has a Confederate marker and a personal head stone placed later by the Leggett family of Copiah Co. and his wife Catherine Dickerson Leggett who is burried in Pine Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery at Dentville Ms. Copiah Co. Ms.
William Wiley Leggett was a Doctor and asst. surgen in Co. G Miss. 21 Inf. and Co I Ms.Sunflower Guards the 21st was also the 8th Virgina Reg. up to 1862. He was also in the Ms 22 Inft. Captin's George W. Elliott's Co.Co.B. Miss. Vol. Hinds Co. Light Guards Ms.22 reg't.
He was 29 years old at time of enlistment at Ramond Ms. Hinds Co. Ms. he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, fair complexion,blue eyes, black hair a Physician and farmer as occupation.
He was given a discharge on Dec 31 1864 due to Chronic Rhurematism and to go home to help his family and community who need a doctor very much. he was paid $100.32 for his time of service by Capitan W.M. Jayne at Baldwin Ms. This was found on form # 4 and 5 cards 1191 and 1187. He served at Enterprise Ms ,Iuka Ms,battle of Raymond Ms.Listing Residence as Linden Ms (Pine Bluff) Ms or what now is Dentville Ms in copiah co. ms. he also owned land in Claiborne Co. Ms. He also served with the 60 day troops and the State Volenteers.His wife is listed on the 1912 pensions who died later that year I 'am not sure if there are more confederate dead at this cemetery but i will check and let you know if i find any.
