I stumbled across your website this evening & would like to contribute a
few Confederate soldiers' grave locations. I am a member of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy and am currently working on our organization's
project to obtain as many recorded grave locations as possible, record them
on our 'Grave Location Records' documents, and then key them into our
database for future generations to have records available by name, regiment,
etc. of their ancestors' burial locations. If you have information
available by print/email that could be of assistance, I would love to
possibly get with you on obtaining such. I think this is a wonderful
project as it brings home that these men were living & breathing individuals
who gave the ultimate sacrifice. By many people working together on this
very same idea/project, we ultimately can find as many of these beloved men
as possible and have their burial locations recorded for our future
generations. I am currently working on obtaining as many names of
Confederate soldiers buried in Oakwood, Hollywood, and Shockoe cemeteries in
Richmond, VA as well as smaller church or family-owned cemeteries in
Richmond and surrounding counties. My ancestors were from & served through
Hanover County, VA and one is listed below. The other, his brother, I have
been trying desperately to locate & know, firsthand, just how difficult it
can be to try to locate the grave of a beloved family member who served the
Confederacy. I believe my other ancestor may be buried in our family
cemetery in an unmarked grave, but I am not absolutely certain of this as of
yet.
I hope my few known locations will be of assistance to you and I wish you
all the best of success with this project.
God Bless,
Sheri Millikin
