I have noticed several listings for cemeteries in Gloucester County, Va,
Gloucester County has a great web site with several listings of cemeteries.
One of those listed is the Belvin cemetery. My great-grandfather, John
Perrin Belvin is buried there. He was a member of the Va. 26th infantry, Co.
F. He is officially listed in his company records as having been left
behind, sick at home, when the Union forces swept up through Gloucester
County. When he did not show up for duty, he was listed some months later as
a deserter. The Va, State Library has online his Confederate Pension
Application from 1903. The handwriting is garbled, but it appears he states
that he was captured by Union forces and sent to prisonfor teh duration of
the war.
