My Great-great Grandfather, James Durrett, a private in the 26th/50th Ala. Infantry, is buried in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in the Cottondale area of Tuscaloosa County, Al. Also in that cemetery are J.A.J. Durrett, who was a member of the Tuscaloosa Militia and his wife Anne Beauchamp Durrett, who served the Confederacy as a nurse. None of them have confederate markers, but they do have headstones in good condition. James and his brother John both served in the 26th/50th. They were at Shiloh and Chickamauga. Both sustained serious injuries on the second day of the fighting at Chickamauga. James came home badly maimed and lived in Tuscaloosa County until his death in 1915. His brother John died at the Institute Hospital in Atlanta of his injuries.
Thank you for working on this compilation. We are losing cemeteries and graves daily to development and growth. I would like to suggest, if you aren't already doing so, that you ask for general location information for the cemeteries that are being submitted. I have had to do some pretty tough back woods trekking to find some of my relatives.
