Note: The following inscriptions are all on a single memorial marker in
this cemetery. The gravesites are not in this cemetery....just thought you
might find it interesting....
" Col. Thomas H. Patterson was born Jan. 13, 1831.
He was slain in the
defence of his beloved country near Atlanta, Ga. on July 30, 1864, where
his remains are now interred. Aged 33 years, 6 months,
and 17 days.
" The sweet rememberance of the just
will flourish while they sleep in dust."
" Capt. Archibald A Patterson was born July 12, 1832,
and was slain in
the battle of Murfreesboro, Tenn. Dec. 31st 1862 and was buried near that
place not far from the bank of Stone River. Aged 30 years, 5 months and 19
days. "
" Sgt. T. Malcom Patterson was born July 17, 1839 and was
slain in the
battle of Sharpsburg, M.D. in defence of his own Sunny South, Sept. 17,
1862. Aged 23 years and two months. We know not his final resting place as
we did not recover his body from the battlefield, but have every reason to
feel and believe that he died as true soldiers died."
Apparently these men were from the same family..
