MESOSCALE-II Cruise (second page)
Leah and Jaime recovering the CTD during a "rare" sunny day
Dr. Harold Batchelder working on the stereoscope on the ship...few people did that, they are bold people! at least Jaime feels sick.
In the MOCNESS not always is caught plankton, some times we got big jellies or octopus . In this case we came back this small octopus to the sea.
The MOCNESS worked great, during all the cruise we obtained about 44 casts with nine depths each one. We have a lot of work to analyze all this bunch of samples!
This is the  New Horizon oceaographic research vessel (Scripps) where we worked during the Mesoscale-II cruise. This ship has a cold room close the wet lab, This help us to do experiments of euphausiid and copepod molting rates and egg production under contant temperature.
Arriving to Newport we measured the egg sinking speed  inside the HMSC's cold room using a transparent tube enclodsed in a transparent water jacket 40 cm diameter
