The Jackal's View of World Communications
Long distance communication is a thing of the past. The disruption
caused by ley line interferance makes any attempt to communicate by any
modern method(except via direct copper wire connection) across a long
distance futile. Keep in mind that there are no more functioning global
communication satellites. Nobody quite knows why they no longer function
or why we are unable to put more into orbit. But the fact remains that we
know live in a world where communications is determined by geography.
If you can connect two places with copper wire, then you can communicate.
Otherwise, send a postcard.
This has resulted in the inability of different governments to communicate
with each other. Thus why it has taken so long for the CS to learn of
the NGR's existance. The whole situation makes the different societies
of the world very separate from each other. In many cases, the only way
to communicate with them is by sending an emissary or ambassador.
For those that wish to embrace magic, there is a very efficient way to
communicate. This is by sending a message through a ley line. I am no magic
user, so I don't know exactly how it works. I do know, however, that the
Federation of Magic uses the technique extensively to communicate with people
throughout their federation. Since ley lines extensively cover the earth,
I wonder if this will be the future of a truely global communications
system.
