Subject: Burst Rules
Ok, I know there has been insane number of combinations for burst rules.
I'm having major problems with this so I thought of this system - give it a chance
Def'n Short Burst - 20% of your clip
Def'n Long Burst - 50% of your clip
Def'n Extreme Burst - 100% of your clip (2 attacks and always considered wild)
You can only fire a full clip. You can't fire a clip and cannister due to
the fact that it requires a switch like your safety.
Ok now here's how it works based on the amount your clip holds and number of
d6 you get to roll.
Clip: 10 shots
Short - 2
Long - 4
Extreme - 7
Clip: 20 shots
Short - 4
Long - 7
Extreme - 14
Clip: 30 shots
Short - 6
Long - 11
Extreme - 20
Any other size Clips - GM discretion (I have to put this in here, there is
no other way)
Now you have a simple table in front of you that tells you how many d6 you
get to roll. I roughly worked the numbers of 6 side dice based on the
number of shots. The more shots, the less control.
Next thing is multiple targets for your burst. I think that with this
system it's pretty easy to work out.
If you get to roll <6 you can only target one thing
If you get to roll 6-10 you can target up to 2 things in a 15 degree cone
If you get to roll 11-13 you can target up to 3 things in a 25 degree cone
If you get to roll >14 you can target up to 4 things in a 35 degree cone
If you choose to target more than one thing than it is consider a wild shot
with respect to the chances to hit. If you are shooting wild then you don't
get to role on the random hit location (if we incorporate one), all are main
body shots.
If you are firing a controlled burst you get hits on a 5 or 6 with the six
sided dice, if you do a wild burst you get hits on a 6.
Now you distribute the number of hits to the number of targets and roll your
damage per hit.
Okay so let us simulate to show what happens. I am Gunther Marx a Juicer
with a JA-11, I have thirty shot clip and a full canister. I am in a
situation where I have 4 guys infront of me and they want my head on a stick.
I decide to waste 2 attacks and unload my clip. My chart says that a 30
shot clip gets 20d6 to roll, which means I can target upto 4 guys if I shoot
wild. I let'r rip! I roll 20d6 and get a variety of responses that adds up
to 8 hits.
I have previously said I'm targeting 4 guys. So I role 8 4-sided and
distribute the hits (guy 1 is 1, guy 2 is 2, you get the picture) Since the
shots are coming from one source, the guys can dodge all hits with a role of
12+ on a controlled burst and 14+ on a wild burst (The room is flying with
shots it would be difficult to dodge all of them). Then I role 3d6 for the
damage per hit (we can roll once or individually).
You skip the 20-sided die and this is compensated by the use of the 6 sided
die to hit. I think that we could make further changes to this system (I
haven't worked on partially used clips, lack of weapon proficiency - lose
some 6 sided roles), but I won't work on it unless we can agree that this is
the way to go.
So.... spill your guts guys and make sure everyone reads your comments.
