: Okay, my opponent has a Colossus of Sardia. (9/9 Trample)
: I have an Avenging Druid (1/3), a Canopy Spider (1/3), the Grizzly
Bears
: (2/2), and Killer Bees (0/1) and all my forests are tapped
out.
: I am at 8 life my opponent is at 1 life.
: (I know this isn't the best strategy, but this is for arguement's
sake.
: So pay no attention to the strategy part, or lack of.)
: Let say I have a Heart Sliver that I can play next turn to finish
my
: opponent off.
: My opponent attacks me with the Colossus. I block with all 4 of my
: creatures.
: I say that my creatures absorb the 9 damage that the Colossus can
do.
: My opponent says that he can direct the damage through my Killer
Bees
: and trample me for 8, finishing me off.
: I say that I put enough things in the path of the Colossus to prevent
: trample damage to me.
: Who is right?
Unless you have a creature with banding assigned to block the
colossus, the attacker gets to decide how to assign damage to blockers.
As such, he can choose to assign all the damage to your 0/1
killer-bees. The end result is that 9 damage is assigned to your
bees, of which 8 is re-directed to you by the trample.
In short, your opponent is right.
Makes trample that much better, or maybe banding?
