Ami stayed

Well, it took some doing, but we got my roommate, Ami, to stay up till now. As you may remember, he was to leave In December, back to New York, for good. He didn't like the program, he missed the city, he missed his friends, he didn't like to work, he didn't want to wake up, he didn't care about anything, he wanted to see his girlfriend, he couldn't stop complaining, yadda yadda yadda.

He was trying to go back around Christmas, and the best price he could get was $995 one way. This is the time of year when everybody is flying TO the Holy Land, to walk the footsteps in Nazzareth, or Bet Lechem, or wherever else it says that Jesus did so much as stub his toe. This is a season where people are almost paid to leave the country to make room for all the Christians that flock in.

Even in peak season, $1000 round way is normal price. He was clearly getting screwed, so, he asked my aunt if she could find him a price. After doing intense research, she tells him that the ad in the paper says $850.

Ami, for some reason (if you know Ami, you know the reason) was unable to call the airlines, so he got my aunt to do that as well [Note: Ami wants me to mention that he DID call "one of those numbers that people call to find out the lowest fares." Mysteriously, he still could not get a good deal.] She got him the number, told him to call. He got the tickets for a little less.

"Hey, Mike, tell your Aunt 'thanks.'"

"Sure, for what?"

"When I was buying the tickets, I mentioned her name, and the guy said, 'oh sure, Melanie,' and he gave me a lower price."

"I'll be sure to tell her."

"Also, does your aunt think I'm stupid or something?" I was very careful not to let anything slip by except for a meaningful pause.

"Why do you ask?"

Commercial break:

OK, we now return...

"Well, when she gave me the number for the tickets, she said, 'Ami, be sure to get round trip tickets.' Like I'm really going to buy the wrong type of ticket."

"I think she said that, because she don't want you to quit the program, she wanted you to come back..." I said slowly.

"Oh. Well, be sure to tell her that I did."

"You mean you're just visiting back home? You're coming back? Because she told you to buy ROUNDTRIP?"

"Well, till late February. Then school starts."

And so it was that Ami stayed an extra two months. We're trying to get him to stay the rest of the time.

P.S. Wanna hear something funny? They won't give us gas masks.
