I have a great deal of respect for my cousin. Tzviki, who is 16, goes to a Yeshiva, and has a relatively unblemished record. I mean, if the teachers were to call him a trouble maker, they would not be able to give reasons of why. I choose those words to describe him, because his principal expelled him from school. At the meeting between the principal, Tzviki, and his parents, the principal said that Tzviki goes to every class, and is not responsible for any problems, but he is a cancer growing on the school, spreading negative influences, and must be removed.
It was the principal's first year, and according to Tzviki, was doing some pretty dirty tricks to the kids, and the one who was catching on was Tzvik. Tzvik'd be the one who would tell another student to close the door, because he could see that the principal eavesdropping. That kind of thing.
So, they're in this meeting, and the principal is very literally saying look, I hate you and you hate me. So, Tzviki, when given his chance to talk, blurts out, "You think it's only me who hates you? Everybody hates you!" So, my aunt is horrified, she had expected him to say that it was all a big misunderstanding, in the hopes that this would all blow over. She tries to shut him up, but the principal tells her to stop, wanting Tzviki to get it out, so the principal could feel his superiority.
So, the school went on being a jerk. No, they wouldn't refund money. No, they wouldn't help him get accepted into a different school. Keep in mind that this whole time, they didn't have a single misdemeanor on this kid. They sent these ugly, insulting letters saying all these things.
It got really ugly, it went to a sort of court, which my cousin lost, and he seemed doomed to be expelled, and with his rather mediocre grades, (like I'm one to talk.) did not have prospects for a new school.
Being Israel, somebody eventually changed their mind and he was reaccepted. But I still am impressed he was able to tell off the principal. That's something I can't quite seem to do.
Here it is, I had finally left this godforsaken program, and I was visiting on the tour to Eilat. Along with us is none other than the main demoness herself, Michal. This was my chance. I was off the program, I had immunity, I would have impunity, I could say anything to her, and she would deserve it, and she couldn't retaliate.
They had just pulled this really low trick on me. I had been very strongly weighing the idea of suing them. My father told them, and they advised him not to, or I wouldn't receive the college credit we were supposed to get. That was cute. We haven't taken any classes; we are not getting college credit anyway.
So, this was my last chance. I can't sue, I would be going back to the States soon (or so I thought), so I would have to at least settle for telling her off.
I couldn't do it.
She would come up to me, "So, Michael, why are you leaving?"
I'd look her straight in the face, "becauseyou'vetreateduslikecrapthewholeyearandIcouldn'ttakeitanymore"
"What?" She said, as usual in my world, with people not understanding me. I'd maybe say that there was a .01% chance that she understood what I said, and said "what," while being flabbergasted.
"Nothing. I just thought I would get more out my time if I went to go study."
"Oh, ok. Well, that's good." And so it went. She kept giving me openings, I'm sure on accident, and I could not bring myself to use one.
It's not that I keep beating myself up for not saying anything, but you know how it is, the next few years will be spent figuring out what I coulda shoulda said.
