Israel has a commemorance day every year of the Holocaust. As horrific as that day is, and as much as it should never be forgotten, in the sixty-five years since Hitler came to power, there really hasn't been so much to add to the day. You can show different movies on the subject, and they are appreciated here, with the Yom Hashoa showing of Schindler's List garnishing Israel's highest ever "Nielson" rating, but they still try to make the whole event seem newsworthy.

America realized it a while ago. It's been only twenty-five years since MLK died, and it's a non-newsworthy event, especially now that James Earl Ray is dead. Its namesake had incredible significance, and thus will not be faded out anytime soon, but it's more a holiday than a memorial day; they flash his picture, maybe read some of his writings, and white politicians makes it a point to shake hands with men of an African heritage.

On the other hand, we keep trying to find a news story in the Holocaust. There were two in the Jerusalem Post. Check these out. (not including those surrounding the Swiss bank scandal.)
'Holocaust Survivors' Radio' Shut Down
'Holocaust Survivors' was shut down yesterday, before Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day.

The pirate radio station played Greek music and its programming had nothing to do with the Holocaust.

"I thought that if I named the station that, it wouldn't be shut down," the station's owner told Army Radio yesterday, as he was arrested for the eighth time for operating a pirate radio station...

There is a problem in this country with a large amount of Pirate Radio stations. So, the first story dealt with a guy trying to profit from the tragedy. You always have to have it pointed out as well that It Could Happen Again...

Philippine Paper Terms Holocaust a 'myth invented by Hollywood.'

Australian Jews are up in arms over an article published in the leading business daily in the Philippines which claims that 'Zionist Jews lied about six million Jews dying in the Holocaust myth, invented by Hollywood.'...written in reaction to the Vatican document on its role during the Holocaust, also claims that Pope John Paul II and Cardinal Edward Cassidy are Jewish...maintains that Anne Frank's Diary is a fake, that there were no gas chambers at Auschwitz, and that "it is impossible for the number of Jewish wartime casualties to be in anything but thousands."...denounced the article, demanded that the paper publish an apology... "I was not in the office when the material was used."..."The truth about Auschwitz is that it was the largest and most important industrial concentration camp, producing all kinds of material for the war industry...Auschwitz also comprised an agricultural research station with laboratories, plant nurseries and facilities for stock breeding, as well as Krupps armament works. This kind of activity was the prime function of the camps."... blames reports about mass slaughter of Jews there on reports from "Postwar Communist regimes of Eastern Europe or information supplied by Polish Jews." ... concludes, "Even the emaciated prisoners in the posters were not Jews, but Allied prisoners starving due to the blockade of ships around Germany during WW II"...

Etc.

Now, following this, there was no other article out there, I did not here this mentioned on anything other than the JP. It was not an AP article. The pope is Jewish. Isn't that one of the yeah right statements? "Hell froze over", "pigs fly," "wild bears do not shit in the woods," and "the Pope is not Catholic." (OK, granted, Cassidy was born Jewish, but the Pope sure wasn't.)

The Jerusalem Post article goes on to say that this op-ed piece offered no arguments, merely accusations and hearsay.

OK. I have friends who would do this. They, as far as I know, are not anti-Semites, they are merely trying to rile you up. I do not think this was funny, nor do I think it was in good taste. But the JP took a letter that was supposed to get people agitated, fell for it hook, line, and sinker, all because they have to show that there are Anti-Semites out there.

One last story from this Yom Hashoa. There is this very legitimate non profit organization that helps the families of Holocaust survivors. The way the parents acted at home, most of the survivors offspring need help. So, my aunt, as her media consultant job, was to get them on publicized on Yom Hashoa. Should be fairly easy, especially when she had found this great story in it. They found this man who was eight years old during the Holocaust, hid out, and managed to rescue literally dozens of children out of the camps. This man lost all contact with them, made no effort to find the people that he saved. Around fifteen years later, one of the girls whom he had saved, tracked him down, and invited him to her wedding. After that, he still never searched for any that he had saved. In 1998, sixty odd years later, he finally wants to know what happened. Now, come on, this should be easy to send out. This is the story they'd be telling kids for years.

"That's very interesting...but we're trying to present it from another angle...would you by any chance have a kappo?" Yes, they actually asked if she had anybody in the organization who had been a kappo.

Finally, she got him into Newsday, of all places. A Mr. Goldstein interviewed him. Halfway through the interview however, Mr. Goldstein found himself looking down the barrel of a gun, because our subject was so insulted by the lack of knowledge held by a Mr. Goldstein.

You know what this means, right? It means that they are right. As boring and repetitive as it feels, they have to keep going. Not even all the Jews know.
