The Everton Review

Hey I've been ill recently so I've not been able to update this foe a while, sorry!!!

Another 3 points, but... With Man. Utd. and Chelsea being held to draws, and Liverpool losing, things couldn't have gone better for us this weekend. With the exception of us finding a way past our pathetically innefficient goal ratio!!!

However, the Everton performance was dubiously BAD!!! We must have created something like 30 goal attempts but our finishing was almost as bad as they were. Anelka is a great striker with great ability (he even smiled when he scored one of his latest goals, much to MO11 contempt!!!) but he really does waste a hatful of chances every single game. Hopefully, if we do sign Rebrov sometime soon we'll have a proven goal scorer to back us up AND pressurise Nikky A to raise his shot:goal ratio just that little bit!!!

We played well in midfield and at the back, but we just can't put the ball in the net. Parlour fed Anelka running across the front of the box about 10 yards outside - but running away from the goal. However a fantastic sleight of footy skill and a crisp turn saw the defender beaten. Super Nic then ran to the corner of the box and hammered it into the opposite top corner. Definitely my Arsenal goal of the season so far.

Everton are a bunch of slow, large cloggers - much like last season in fact - the only time we were troubled was from two corners where Ferguson should have scored both times (once against the bar, the second flying across the face of the goal). Keown totally controlled Ferguson while Grimandi also had a great game sweeping up the knockdowns.

Things got a bit ugly towards the end. After Petit was booked for dissent with about 3 minutes to go, the red mist descended and he was quite fortunate to avoid a Charlton-like second yellow. He was sliding in everywhere. Keown and Grimandi also booked for fairly minor offences. Everton had about 6 booked. No substitutes used but the bench was Manninger, Upson, Hughes, Bergkamp and Wreh. The team was 4-3-3 with Anelka, Overmars and Freddy up front. As always, Ljundbers was great, trying hard. He really does still astound me!!!
