Artist: Bass P Album: Unreleased Song: "A Good Man" Verse 1: A good man is hard to find True or False--c'mon make up your mind According to Flannery O'Conner it's true Literary devices give me this clue Description, suspense. as well as narration Foreshadowin' and argumentation The story contains a family of four, A gang of misfits, and a whole lot more It begins with a family squabble, you see Over where to vacation: Florida or Tennessee Grandma wants Tennessee to visit kin She doesn't know it, but she soon starts foreshadowin' The kids want Florida, but they are scared Cuz Grandma says the Misfit's headin' there Nevertheless, ignorin' Grandma's warning The family leaves for Florida the very next morning At every stop along the way Grandma turns paranoid and she would say, "Did you read about the criminal that's escaped? I wouldn't be surprised if he attacks this place Oh no, don't look, here he comes now" And then, he would loudly shout, Chorus: "Throw your hands in the air Freeze ... Pull this trigga, sucka Throw your hands in the air Give it up, give it up, give it up, give it up, give it up Throw your hands in the air Freeze ... Pull this trigga, sucka Throw your hands in the air Give it up, give it up, give it up, give it up, give it up Verse 2: Now all through the story, O'Conner's tryin' to make The point that most men are all too fake Good men are hard to find--they are rare She's using argumentation here Now back to the story, the situation The family's gotta do some decision makin' Grandma says that there's this interesting house Only to be found on a different route They can continue on going straight Or they can make the turn--a big mistake They make the turn, cuz the kids wanna see The house that she told about mistakenly The house, she recalled, was in a different state But they couldn't turn around, cuz it was too late One of Grandma's cats just then got free And sprung onto the head of the driver, Bailey The car spun out, and then it crashed No one was hurt, but they were stranded nonetheless Up pulled a big, black, hearse-like car Out jumped the Misfit with the order, Chorus Verse 3: The predicament that the family was in Was all implied before through foreshadowin' Onto suspense, the next device The family's held at gunpoint--not too nice The crazy Misfit soon requests Three members of the family need to be dismissed So the Misfit's gang take three to the woods They get shot full of lead like boyz in the hood Now Grandma is the only one left She converses with the Misfit and becomes a pest God will help you. if you pray You are a good man, believe what I say "Why are you the Misfit?" she asks so long "Cuz I can't fit my punishment with what I done wrong" Grandma keeps stallin' for precious time So she wouldn't be the scene of an awful crime The Misfit finally realizes her scheme So he decides it's time to end this thing Three pistol shots through the chest Then she fell--let's have a moment of silence Verse 4: Personal interpretation is last Of the story that I so defly rapped The story was great, I enjoyed it a lot O'Conner's writing style is so sizzlin' hot She uses just the right literary devices And doesn't dwell on them, she expresses conciseness Which is essential in keepin' it movin' I hate slow stories that are so out of tune and ... I like the surprise at the end No "Happily ever after" this time, my friend Stories like that are all too fake But O'Conner's realistic in the point she makes So, if you haven't read the story, I suggest That you get yourself a copy, cuz this story's the best And now that I'm finished, the Bass P will cease But one last thing .... "Peace" Chorus Copyright 1992 Peter A. Roselli
