After Quepos, I went off by myself for another week of adventure. My first volcano adventure was to Volcan Poas. I was expecting to get to do some hiking deep into the forest and get down and dirty. But when I got there, I saw a bunch of tourist buses carrying a lot of tourists dressed in their Sunday Church clothes. These weren't backpackers or campers, they were old people from the city. The place was all paved and there was a big "Starbucks-like" coffee shop too. Not what I was expecting to see. What was worse was, it was raining and very cloudy, and no one could see the crater. I only saw it in a brief video. Actually what was really worse was, we (the non-touristy group) had to wait 4 hours for the next bus to arrive to take us back to town.
This very disappointing visit to Volcan Poas prompted me to seek another "volcano adventure"; Volcan Arenal was next.

LEFT: Climbing through the lava walls at the
base of the volcano. Who is that? (see below). RIGHT: A monolith (pile of rocks) at the furthest point I was able to climb. It got really dangerous because the sides of the volcano were made of piles of loose lava rock. I started a few 'mini' rock slides while climbing. Pretty scary shit! I think I was about 1/4 of the way up. |

Time
for a short story to answer the question: Who's the chick in the
picture?
At miserable Volcan Poas, I met a fellow Canadian girl from
Ottawa. We hung out a bit (we had 4 hours to wait) and decided to
see if the clouds would go away. It didn't. So we went to the
crater anyways. It was about a 10 minute walk, but it was
raining. When we got back, we were all wet. So we had to change
into dry clothes. Well, when she came out dressed in shorts and a
really "fly" tank top, she
looked really "tight"; she had a nice
tan (I dig tanned girls), and had very nice legs. We talked a bit
and came to the conclusion that we were both dissappointed at
this whole thing. We both had a week in Costa Rica and also had
no set plans. At that point I weaseled myself into a position to
travel together to another volcano (Arenal). So....We spent the
next four days together, including my next adventure to
Montezuma.
So you ask, "Anything juicy to tell?". Other than the fact that we shared a double bed in some of the nastiest hotels in Costa Rica, NOPE. Why? First, I discovered that she reminded me of another friend of mine. And after a couple days, things got kinda boring. In fact, I felt like I was on a very bad date that lasted 4 days, where conversations had to be forced out. Things didn't click and that was that. I left for San Jose a day early because I felt that we had enough of each other.
Sorry guys, nothing erotic, dirty or kinky to write about. I guess I could have made up a juicy story, but if I did, that Ottawa girl would be pretty pissed-off. Not that she wouldn't be already if she stumbled onto this webpage somehow.
