Prelude

It was thanks to the efforts of many of Mohamed Ali School English Club students that this magazine saw the day. It began as a casual idea and now it is realised due also to the encouragement of Mr.Kouraichi, the headmaster . I wish you could find in it what you like . Generally , the beginning of everything in life is very difficult, for this I wondered for a long time about how to start. The answer came when I opened Tunisia News of October,14th ,1995 and I found the following poem of Tunisia’s everlasting poet, Abul Quassim Ashabbi, I thought that it would be the most convenient way to greet our country, not in Arabic, but in English.

Beautiful Tunisia

I do not weep because night is a tyrant

Nor because destruction reigns in the countryside

I weep instead for the heavy calamity

Now afflicting us without relief

Whenever a leader rises in the country,

Vigorous with reform, yearning to awaken the people.

They grab him in a shirt of oppression,

A horny shirt that curbs his intent .

They stifle his heavenly voice and murder his music .

Never receptive , they prefer to follow

The ways of tyranny and coercion ,

Because those are the roads they know.

This is what happens to ones who are sincere !

Death shots are aimed at them easily.

Lo ! Calamities have taken hold of us,

They have annihilated our land .

Beautiful Tunisia ! I ride the crest of the

Waves in my love for you,

My love for you is my covenant

I have known its bittersweet taste .

I’ll never yield to the wayward winds

Even if I should die , even if I lose my youth,

I’ll never yield even if they spill my blood .

The blood of lovers is always game for spilling .

The days , no matter how long , will

Show you how true my love is , will

Spell out my loyalty in a clear voice .

This is the age of darkness , but I’ve

Seen morning rising behind it,

No matter what time has done to my

People’s glory , life spread your

Glorious mantle once again .

THE ENGLISH CLUB

I’m a pupil in the English club of Med Ali school and I’m going to write this page to describe to you our club :

a- Listening to music :

Every week, we listen to a song and we try to guess its missing words or expressions. I can mention as examples : Careless Whisper by G. Michael , Let it be by The Beatles , You are not Alone by M. Jackson , Tearing up My Heart by N’SYNC , Love doesn’t ask why by C. Dion , As Long As You Love Me by B.S.B., and My Heart Will Go On by C. Dion .

b- Watching films :

In our club, we sometimes watch a film , then we make a discussion about it . We saw films like Forrest Gump , Ghosts, and Philadelphia .

c- Games :

Mr. Sofiene and Mr. Fathi usually prepare for us some games like draw and win , scrambled words , and scrabbles .

d- Discussions :

Often after every song, we talk together about our school life and we discuss some of our social problems like sexism, segregation, the relationship between teachers and pupils, between boys and girls . We also talk about our country : its history , its culture , and its people .

e- Attendance :

Many pupils from different levels usually attend the club .We usually spend nice evenings together .

Due to all these activities , we enjoy ourselves and at the same time, we improve our English .

I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT YOU

Every day , Every night , and forever

I want to see you

When I need you

With this , I feel enjoyed so much

When I talk to you so long

I can’t live without you

‘cause you are the sun that shines over me

Wherever you are

Your love makes me strong

Make sure , you are in my heart for a long

I can’t live without you

Though,

You make me sad

You make me cry

And you make me sleep less

But , nevermind

I love you more , not less

I’m living with your love

So, don’t go away

I need you by my side

Please , don’t run away .
