
Pembroke State University began it's life as Cherokee Normal School in 1887 with its Indian heritage. Tau Delta Rho organized in the early 1970's and built a reputation of fine character and good relationships with the administration. Known for their contributions to social and service organizations, their philosophy was compatible with Tri Sigma's.
On April 5, 1974 Joyce Dibble Godfrey, Installing Officer, led the ceremonials with help from Gayle Joseph Jobe, Laura Ward, Barbara Stichler Bonapfel, Kathy Moore, Pam Sauvain Spence, and Virginia Allen Smith to install the charter members into the Sigma Sisterhood.
Pembroke State University later also changed its name to the
University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
