LHS at the Lone Star Drumline CompetitionNovember 10th, The Lone Star Drumline Competition was held at Goldsmith Stadium in Lewisville, Texas. The Lewisville High Drumline was going into Lonestar as a 3 time defending champion. The Drumline finished 2nd overall even with 1st place rankings from 2 out of the 3 judges (2 of the more important and influential judges... go figure.), and they were edged out by the clean Colleyville Heritage. The Drumline won caption awards for Best Pit and Best Cymbals.Lewisville Marching Band, 10th at BOA RegionalNovember 3rd, the Lewisville High Marching Band took the field on an extremely hot and humid day at Rice Stadium in Houston, Texas. The prelim performance was terribly 'rough', and surprisingly enough the band placed 9th before finals. That evening Lewisville claimed the 10th spot in what many people called "the Houston Blood Bath."Lewisville had made major strides in the overall performance of the band. As seen in the results... beating Coppell (EX-Tx St honor band), Richland (Grand Nats Band), and even placing above The Colony in prelims at Houston (hasn't happened in YEARS). ...if these trends continue, it will be very interesting to see how Lewisville will fair in the future.Lewisville Marching Band, 8th at BOA RegionalOctober 6, "The Band That Marches With Pride" went beyond the expectations of many people by making finals at the BOA San Antonio Regional. Lewisville placed 8th in Prelims, then went on to finish 8th place in Finals. Pre-Contest rankings had Lewisville in the 20's... The band just seemed to shout out, "Hello, World!"The LHS Trombone Section would like to send our props out to LD Bell for their win at San Antonio and a Good Luck to them as they head toward Grand Nationals. The next competition for the LHS Marching Band is November 3rd at the BOA Houston Regional. Early defensive stops by Chris Meredith - 3 interceptions, and John Nguyen - with an interception and many deflections, helped pull the trombones in an early lead and shutout. The score went to 28-7, then was taken to 42-14 by Half time. Quarterback, Tony Dudley was right on mark and second Quarterback Brandon Carley also preformed well. Wide Receiving from Darrin Hicks (Drumline), Brack Nall, and John Nguyen quickly tormented the Trumpets with long bombs and short cuts.In the Second Half more defensive plays from Chris Meredith, John Nguyen, Jeff Street and Clayre Allen helped solidify the Trombone win. Along with the offensive package of Tony, Brandon, Darrin, Chris, and John, all either catching or throwing - it was all over. By the end the score was estimated at 70-21. The Trombones go 1-0 in the 2001-2002 season. The Trombones played without superstars: Clayton Ferguson, Alex Briones, and Matt Powell. The Trumpet were missing many upperclassmen: Chris A., Ross R., Keaton D., and Matt P. The next scheduled game is July 14th.-Chris MeredithTrumpets Defense Wins The Rematch GameJuly 7th, CENTRAL PARK - Hotter and as sunny as it gets... and a very close game to the end. With only 5 on 5 contact football, it looked like the game was going to be rough, and it was. For the Trumpets Devan provided energy and Chris became the defensive threat by eventually delievering a last minute interception return for a touchdown. While the trombones were driven and kept alive by the bombing connection of Tony to Clayton.Offensively, the Trombones had Tony tossing and Clayton catching, with Brandon dropping. The Trumpets basically had any-and-everyone tossing with basically Devan catching. Chris and Chris neutralized each other. On the other side of the ball the Trombones could never play terrific one on one and had themselves torn up. The Trumpets managed the keep the Trombones throwing Hail Marys every other down. All and all, with hardly any players and the sprinklers going off, the Trumpets won. 42-35.-Chris Meredith |
