Since i'm out of school (and have been for a long time), the only way this page gets updated is when kind souls tell me about upcoming events. So if you know of something that hasn't been covered here, or if you want to announce any class events / whatever, please use the form at the bottom of this page to tell me to put it up :o) Thanks.

OPEN HOUSE AND INSTALLATION OF TIME CAPSULE 6th AUGUST 99
Coinciding with the National Day celebrations (patriotic-song-time) - displays and etc, plus the installation of a time capsule (inside: 100 years of fund-raising leaflets/circulars; recipe for mee pok?) by RAdm Teo Chee Hean. From 11am - 4 pm, anything before 11 am is strictly 'by invitation only' but i bet you could crash if you wanted to :oP Go to The Official Site for a detailed schedule of events.

PRIMARY SCHOOL DRAMA PERFORMANCE 9-10th JULY 99
Hey. That's like, over, and i don't know anything about it other than it's supposed to be the Primary School "expressing their joy and pride in the school". *snicker* All right, i won't laugh.

SC IN THE NEWS
We knew the dinner would be covered in The Straits Times when we saw the press photographers swarming the place, but the little column that came out the next day on Dr Tony Tan's speech was kinda disappointing. So i was pleasantly surprised to see that Monday's (July 5th) Life! cover story was on "Dramatic Gold, Precious Jade" which made for very pleasant breakfast-reading after the boring main section *grin* If you didn't get a chance to read it and want to, mail me and i'll send you the full text of the article - i didn't put it up here cause i was afraid i'd get sued for copyright violation or something.

THE CENTENARY DINNER 3rd JULY 99
Really glitzy affair at the Westin Stamford's Raffles Ballroom with lots of big-name people among the 1300 attending. Think of those Shatec-formal dinners combined with the raucousness of any school event (complete with school cheers AND the thumping and clapping) and you get an idea of the atmosphere. Candles, wine, gold and green stars strewn on the tables, souvenirs at every place, and while the food was slightly disappointing ("fusion" cuisine - chee cheong fun with cod?!?), the really infectious celebratory mood more than made up for it. The dinner also saw the launch of the centenary book, "Pieces of Jade and Gold", an anecdotal account of SCGS' history by alumnus Ooi Yu-Lin. If you haven't got it ($50, enquire at the school office), you should (and no, i'm not being paid for my views) - it's really worth a read 'cos it's not just a factual account - some parts are quite hilarious.
A big Yaaaaaaaam-Seng (and it was a really long one that night) to the Grand Old Lady!

SCGS - PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE 9th-11th APRIL 99
Miss Heng told us it would be "a very funny show" and she wasn't kidding. i nearly split my sides laughing (especially at the sight of so many teachers acting). Great show - kudos to all involved. A more detailed account, together with photos, can be found at The Official Website.
