Purpose
and goals
The purpose of YIG is to enhance
development of the American democratic process by enabling young people
to prepare for political and moral leadership through participatory training
in the theory and practice of determining public policy.
In order to accomplish the above purpose,
the following goals have been established:

To provide leadership training to meet hte needs
of the democratic society.

To develop an understanding and awareness of how
Wisconsin State government works including the use of Parliamentary Procedure.

To provide opportunities for participation in legislative,
executive, and judicial branches of Wisconsin State government with the
central focus on the legislative program.

To stimulate interestin U.S. Government and to provide
an opportunity to attend the annual Conference
on National Affairs

To provide opportunities to become significantly
involved and aware of prominant social issues.

To develop self-condisence and self-expression and
to stimulate tolerance towards another's point of view.

To provide an opportunity and cultivate the application
of moral and thical valuing processes to public policy making.
Democracy and all that it represents will remain
only so long as its youth are exposed to its ideals and potentials.
Those who would work to guarantee the right of every person's voice in
government are those who will perpetuate the democratic way of life.
The youth of our nation are those upon whom this trust is placed.
Democracy
must be learned by each generation
