St. Benedict's Rules

The song playing is Boadicia by Enya.

St. Benedict created
the perfect community.
If one wants to be a monk,
here is a list of rules

Be not proud or drink excess.
Enjoy reading holy books.
Confess your sins in prayer.
Do not sleep with one who hooks.

Follow the Ten Commandments
and respect all men as kin.
Follow the golden rule
and do not live life in sin.

Do not with for a long life.
Do not brandish evil thoughts
for God is everywhere here.
Do not love to sleep on cots.

Deny your desires child,
and monitor your actions.
Chastise your body for Christ;
chastity before passions.

Do not murmur or speak much.
Laughter is not permitted.
Idle talk can cause mischief.
Judgement day and Hell come, Ned.

Love fasting and ones rival.
Honor the elderly folks.
Love and care for the youngsters.
Do not be part of a hoax.

Recognize evil inside,
and do not put blame on them.
Attribute goodness to God.
Trust in God to see you through.

Comfort the poor with mercy.
Clothe the naked with your love.
Visit the sick and depressed.
Show them charity and doves.

Obey the Abbot in all,
for I have made him leader.
Do not desire to be
called a holy person dear.

Never make a false peace, child.
Instead make true peace, the best.
If you make peace by sundown,
your strife will be so much less.

In order to be holy,
you must first be humble, Child.
Do not be jealous of them.
Humble yourself; be mild.

Don't be angry to others.
Bury the dead in God's name
and see death daily in life.
Worldliness is not your aim.

Don't despair of God's mercy.
Pray for your enemies to Christ.
Do not show arrogance dear.
Do not ever be enticed.

Above all else my student,
love God with mind, body, soul.
If you follow these rules,
you will then reach God's main goal.

Do no evil unto them
who injure you against God.
Praise all that insult your faith;
be just then and give a nod.
