Choosing The Right Topics For Your Desktop

(This applies to students studying at Consett, Stanley and Lanchester only NOT Chester Le Street students who will be instructed by their tutor )

  • After logging in - When the Topic Selector appears on the screen - Hold down the Ctrl key and using your mouse pointer click on both MS Office and INTERNET in turn, then click OK.
  • You should now have the icons for WORD, NETSCAPE and FIRST CLASS displayed on your desktop as well as various others.

    Copying And Pasting Into A Word Document

    (All students)

  • Open WORD by double clicking the icon.
  • When it is open, immediately minimise it to the bar at the bottom of your screen by clicking the third button from the right at the top of the screen.
  • Now double click the Netscape or Explorer browser icon to open it.
  • Find a page that contains some text you might like to save.
  • Highlight the text by dragging over it with the left mouse button pressed down until you have as much as you want. You can tell it is highlighted because its appearance changes.
  • Go up to Edit on the menu bar and click Copy
  • Go down to the bottom of the screen and click on the Microsoft Word button on the bar. Word will open on your screen.
  • In Word go to Edit on the menu bar and Paste. The text will appear in your document.

  • In your browser once you have found the page you wish to take a picture of, hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and press the Print Scrn key (top right on the keyboard).
  • Open Word and go to Edit and Paste.
  • A copy of the screen will be pasted into your Word document as a graphic. It will include all the buttons etc. that appear on the screen. This will prove that you have actually visited a site.
