Hiking the Appalachian Trail!

The Appalachian Trail is basically a footpath that stretchs approximately 2,100 miles from Georgia to Maine on the eastcoast of America.  The trail is preserved and maintained by volunteers and cautious hikers so it pretty much can retain its natural beauty for us to appreciate.

I was amazed by the idea that people do come here every year to hike the trial from one end to the other.  Some spend months of walking, eating, sleeping and even shiting in this woods ( pardon my french ) Those that can make it from end to the other end of the trial in one hiking season are called 'thru hiker'.   The hiking season usually starts when it is getting warmer in the spring.

Using an easy Math from my 7th grade, one can guess that if anyone can walk 20 miles a day it will take roughly three and a half month to complete the trail.   Right?  Well, there is a bit more to it than just walking.   Imagine carry a weight of 40-50 pounds on your back and walk 20 miles up and downhill on the trail that's full of slab of rocks tiled in random variations everyday for four months.

The hardship is there but every year a few hundred people achive their goal.  I don't know if I want to become a thru-hiker but I really want to hike the A.T.  It is hard to explain but there is something about it that makes me feel alive.  To be able to live on my own, become master of oneself.  On the A.T., walking takes on a totally different meaning, it is not just another kind of transportation that you had to take when buses or cars are not around, but it is the only kind of transportation you've got and your life just happens to depend on it.

Sleeping alone in the woods...very peaceful..
