Yet another of Dietz's literary accomplishments. This four book series chronicles the adventures of one Sam McCade, professional bounty hunter. In the future the galaxy spanning human empire is too vast for any imperial police force to be practical. The pursuit of criminals across the stars is, therefore, left to bounty hunters. Of all the bounty hunters in the known Universe McCade is one of the best.
McCade is a former Naval Officer who retire in disgrace because he refused a direct order by his captain to fire upon and destroy a starship loaded with unarmed refugees. He then goes on to become a distinguished bounty hunter. Living off the rewards the Empire pays for captures. As the story begins he is roped in by a government offical to take a job for the empire. This leads to a wide variety of adventures that are discribed in the books.
This series continues Dietz's fascination with those who live on the societal fringe. McCade and his ilk are tolerated by society, but that's about it. Most citizens of the Terran Empire consider them to be on the same level as those who the bounty hunters are chasing. McCade shows definite reflections of Han Solo. Pretty much the same persona, just a different profession. That's a little too simplistic, but close enough for me. I like these books and I'd recommend them to anyone who asked.
