"The Final Battle": The worst of the lot

Summary

This book is the long awaited sequel to "Legion of the Damned." Never have I read a book with such potential, and so little substance. The premise is simple, the humans beat off the Hudathans in the first book. (sorry to ruin the ending, but you didn't actually think we'd lose did you? That'd be too creative for us to handle.) They do not, however, destroy their warmaking ability. So inevitably, after a few decades. the Hudathans recover and decide to give it another try.

That's about all I can remember about the book besides the fact that we win again. He makes some half-assed tries at innovation, but in truth he just doesn't seem to have anything else to offer the story. If I went back and read it over again I could point out the very page where he seems to get tired of writing the book and wraps it up. The final battle the book is named after is barely described in comparison to the first books climax. The book ends with a whimper so unremarkable that I can't even remember it.

Review

This book is disappointing all around, the only reason I recommend it is that if you read the first book you'll likely to be unable not to read the second. It really is the only poorly written thing I've read by Dietz. I wish he had just let the story line be.
