I'm a bit partial towards this particular author since it was his Belgariad/Malloreon series that first introduced me to fantasy type novels. From the instant I began reading "Pawn of Prophecy" I was entranced. I read the first five book series in about two weeks (which is lightning quick for me. I read slowly though I retain almost everything I read.) I then finished the first four books of the second series in about the same time. I then spent a few anxious months waiting for "The Seeress of Kell" to be published. After the end of the series I actually fell into a mild depression. So to cheer myself up I read the series again, and again, and again. I read nothing else but that series for almost a year. I went through it almost ten times.
I then moved on to other books. But I was ecstatic when he published his six Sparhawk books. I read everyone and enjoyed them all. The crowning achievement of his series in my opinion where his Polgara and Belgarath books hat tied up the two original series. I know many people didn't like them but I savored every page.
To be fair I think Raymond E. Feist does a better job of being consistent and of contructing complete and believeable worlds. But I don't care about all that, Feist may be a better writer but Eddings will always be my favorite.
I guess this is more hero worship than review. Just go read his books. Start with "Pawn of Prophecy" and move on. It's worth it believe me.
