The timeless curve of her neck
As she turns her head and shivers
As she speaks
Then she sighs
Her words fall soundlessly to the floor
Shattering in the silence
A tiny butterfly emerges
A sparkle of light
Then darkness
And she is left alone
To her own content
She lets her hair down
Runs her fingers through the waves
The shiny strands of spider webs
She raises her arms to the sky
To worship the goddess
Of past regrets
As she opens her wings to the future
The future of her children
The future of her parents
She opens her wings to everything
And everyone who ever loved another
Or tried to love
But was shattered
Turned away out into the cold harsh outdoors
A hollow tree stump
Sitting in her path
She stumbles, not seeing it
Falls, physically this time
With scars on the outside to prove it
Matching her scars on the inside
And the angel awakens
