The Halessi are the Microsofties of the Galaxy.  They are ruthless businessmen and monopolizers, taking no consideration for any anti-trust laws that may exist.  There are two very large companies that are large enough to be considered small nations:  The Shesail Company and Macroseal, which have recently begun talks of a merger.  Nearly every citizen of Haless Prime is an employee in either company, or has an occupation based upon these two companies (service industries, parts manufacturers, etc.).  The software package, Halessi '95 (by Macroseal), is the result of many years of constant encoding by thousands of different programmers.  It is well-known to work perfectly on any computer system or network (that the Halessi create).

The Halessi all share a dependancy on a chemical called Diepepwe, which is found in abundance in the form of Halessi lawn grass.  They have many methods of Diepepwe consumption, but the most common form is that of smoking the dried grass leaves.  Consequently, the air of any enclosed space with more than a few Halessi will be thick with an acrid, yellow smoke.
