The Agent in Charge of the MiB, Houston, hustles the Cable and Duke out of their cover jobs with the instruction to come to MiB headquarters immediately. The HQ is located in a very small town, Syngho, West Virginia. Houston gives them a simple mission: there is an alien masquerading as a human being. His "name" is John Smith, and he is spreading lies and rumors about the Secret Masters and the Human Conspiracy. This alien has been surgically altered to appear human, presumably to lend the appearance of a disenfranchised terran who knows about the Conspiracy that lots of aliens are sure exists. Since Smith is an alien and not a human being, the MiB have full latitude in their actions against him. Liquidation is the most effective tactic, but more subtle methods are in order.
There is a correllary mission, too. Two new recruits have been enlisted in the MiB, and Cable and Duke are in charge of training them. Bringing these two into the adventure (and the campaign) has been a great experience, and something I'll definitely do in other campaigns. They become an Ally Group (about 100 points each), can be used for the occaisional comic relief, and it allowed us to invent a whole tradition behind the training of new MiB. Here it is:
New recruits to the MiB are enrolled in what is called the Little Boys Club, a small internal organization that acclimate the LBs into their new professions. The details for recruitment are as yet undefined, but we do know that cultural undesirables are almost always recruited (a la La Femme Nikita), for their lack of family ties as anything else. They are given a basic once-over in MiB practices and policies, and immediately handed over to their Trainers for some introductory (and simple) missions.
Duke and Cable give them their temporary MiB names (to be used until their training is over), Logan and Bob (or Nut and Spank, as we are wont to call them). They are given their S.C.R.U.B.s, shades, glasses and vests, and a little laser pistol that Gooch ceremoniously named "The Noisy Cricket," in honor of the film. The Cricket is given to Little Boys to use in the field, but the LBs are not told how to use them. If the shootist does not aim the weapon before firing, then the gun produces a humungous knockback effect, thus teaching the LB to always aim before firing. After 4 years of using such a device, few MiBs fire without aiming their weapon.
Duke and Cable then talk to the computer specialist, Jackson, who is in charge of giving the LBs their cover identities. After a brief conversation with Cable, it is decided that Logan and Bob will have the alternate IDs of Jack Daniels and Jim Beam, respectively, and will work as a computer programmer and as a buyer of farm supplies for the Jupiter Gas Harvest Project, also respectively.
Off they go, to the spaceport in Morgantown, WV.
