Elizabeth's Interests Page
My interests are:
- Computers - I've been messing about with them since the Sinclair ZX80 was around, and using PC's for about three years now. I remember when having a Commodore 64 was the height of sophisticated technology! My current machine is a Fujitsu Pentium P120 mini tower system, with 1.1 gigabyte HD, 8 meg RAM, 6 speed CD Rom, 28.8 bps modem. It is (sadly) as yet un-named! Seriously, I've enjoyed using HTML so far, and I want to learn more about it, and maybe try out Java.
- Literature/Drama - I've always loved reading, especially 19th century female novelists...Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen et al. I like the theatre, and I went to see Anton Chekhov's 'Uncle Vanya' not long ago.
The last few books I read for pleasure were:
- Anne Bronte's The Tenant of Widfell Hall
- Terry Pratchett's Hogfather
- Maeve Binchy's Evening Class
- Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita
- The illustrated anthology of Jane Austen
- The Dickens Encyclopaedia
- The Cambridge Music Guide
- Cinema - I am a regular cinema-goer...the last good film I saw was 'Michael Collins'. One of my favourite movies of all time is The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I used to go to the midnight showings at Baker Street, where fans would dress up as characters from the movie! I admire immesely the acting talents of Emma Thompson, Geena Davis and Alan Rickman and Daniel Day-Lewis.
- Mensa - I have been an active member for eight years. British Mensa now has a site on the Web, for members and non-members alike. I believe that going web-wide could be a great move for Mensa if enough members do too. I also recently joined the Mensa Internet SIG, which I have found to be an invaluable site.
