NOTE: All print indexes and abstracts are located in the southeast corner of the 1st floor by the reference desk unless otherwise noted. The electronic titles are available on the computers between the circulation and reference desks.

This index covers communications-related articles, reports, and books. Some general topics included here are mass communication, advertising and marketing, broadcasting, public relations, and media.

 

EXPANDED ACADEMIC INDEX/ASAP (InfoTrac Searchbank via Internet computers)

GENERAL BUSINESSFILE/ASAP (InfoTrac Searchbank via Internet computers)

These "InfoTrac" databases index a large number of journals and magazines, are updated monthly, and are very easy to use. Expanded Academic Index is usally the first place to look for articles on a wide variety of subjects. General BusinessFile ASAP indexes business-related magazines and journals plus provides information about specific companies and industries. The "ASAP" means that some of the indexed articles are available in their entirety on the computer.

 

FILM LITERATURE INDEX INDEXES PN 1993 .F5 (index shelves)

This is an index to periodical literature on film, television, and video. Coverage is international and includes both scholarly journals and popular media. Film and video reviews, news items, personalities, and other subjects in film and video are covered. Each issue from 1988 to current is divided into Section One: Film and Section Two: Television/Video.

 

SOCIAL SCIENCES INDEX INDEXES AI 3 .S61 (index shelves)

Indexes over 350 journals in areas such as economics, law, planning, and public administration, psychology, and political science.

 

WILSON BUSINESS ABSTRACTS (1st floor computers)

This computer index on CD-ROM covers all fields relating to business, including accounting, advertising, finance, economics, investments, marketing, management, personnel administration, and specific industries. It covers articles printed from July 1982 to the present.

Summarizes current research in the field and includes lengthy bibliographies. Located on the second floor in the Main Collection.

 

INTERNATIONAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF COMMUNICATIONS REF P 87.5 .I5 1989

Contains articles on all aspects of the history, methods, and study of communication. Articles are in alphabetical order by subject, with related articles frequently grouped together. Most articles include bibliographies for further study.

 

HANDBOOK ON MASS MEDIA IN THE UNITED STATES: THE INDUSTRY AND ITS AUDIENCES REF P 92 .U5 H36 1994

Discusses various sectors (e.g. radio, magazines), including their history, development, and future projections. Each chapter includes a bibliography.

 

MASS MEDIA AND THE CONSTITUTION: AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SUPREME COURT DECISIONS REF KF 2750 .A59 H58 1989

This book is divided into twelve chapters, each covering a different aspect of media law such as "Libel" or "Censorship." Each chapter includes summaries of the pertinent Supreme Court cases with the opinion, a list of referenced cases, and suggested further reading. At the end of each chapter is a bibliography.

 

MASS MEDIA: A CHRONOLOGICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF TELEVISION, RADIO, MOTION PICTURES, MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS, AND BOOKS IN THE UNITED STATES REF P 92 .85 H77 1987

This book is a very good source of information on the history of various media from 1638 through 1985. After a brief introduction and a list of "firsts," it is arranged by chronological eras broken into sections on each type of media. Each section is then broken down year by year. There is a detailed index in the back providing access to personal names, titles, organizations, and other subjects.

 

MASS MEDIA BIBLIOGRAPHY: AN ANNOTATED GUIDE TO BOOKS AND JOURNALS FOR RESEARCH AND REFERENCE REF P 90 .B55 1990

This extensive annotated bibliography includes listings for books, journals, and indexes covering broadcasting, print, film, advertising, and general communications.
