blair witch project.
watch this now. you have to. it's wonderful. it scares the beegeebers out of me. somewhat nauseating because of the jumpy camera...but somewhat bearable...maybe when it comes out on dvd, i can watch it on a smaller screen without ralphing. the sci fi channel special, "fake-documentary" is a nice complement to this movie. if you can, watch it before you watch the movie...you'll have more background and more reason to be scared. you probably heard too many things about it already anyhow...

fakin' da funk.
this was one of those movies i picked up because it had one of my favorite stars on it...albeit not a major part, but a part nonetheless. margaret cho is a foreign exchange student from china who lives with a family in south central, l.a. but that's not the main story of the movie. basically, it deals with an asian guy who was adopted by a black family...and his battles with others who question his culture and his race. it's a light-comedy-drama kind of thing. it's a nice commentary on the definition of race and culture. he was raised by a black family, in a predominately black community...so he says he is black, even with his asian-looking features. margaret cho is hilarious as a very stereotyped asian. but, it's supposed to be that way...it's like poking fun at the stereotypes we have supported over the years in the media (ie...born in east l.a.).

"yeah, just 2 blocks ahead and make a left."
"a left?"
"yeah, right."
"a right?"

sorry...i just had to quote that.

sweethearts.
this is a janeane garafalo movie (woo-hoo!!!)...and it has margaret cho in it too (ding-ding-ding-ding...double points). this is janeane at her self-loathing best. it looks like a comedy from the outside...it's sweet...but in the end it's depressing. but i think it made its points, and it was good entertainment...so positive remarks really. oh yeah, bobcat is here also. so, here's a really brief synopsis: guy answers janeane's personal ad, decide to meet at a cafe. janeane's character told him false info about her physical features...in the cafe she talks to him as a stranger...and then reveals that she is the one in the personal ad, he threatens to leave...she shoves a gun to his side and makes him stay in the cafe...yada-yada-yada...i would give away the whole story if i said anything else...and wa-lah....you have sweethearts...a sweet, yet, heart-wrenching comedy-drama...
