This Session's Topic:
Chrysalis

I'm convinced now. I want to be a butterfly.

Have you thought about being a butterfly? All those bright, beautiful colors on their wings sparkling in the sunlight would be beautiful to have. You get to drink only nectar from the most beautiful flowers. And then, there's the most wonderful part.

You get to fly.

You know, fly. Soar above the clouds, looking down on the earth below. Doing loop-de-loops in the air. Floating with the slightest breese.

It would be wonderful.

That's the kind of things God wants to do for us. Take us above the clouds on feathery, gossamer wings and help us fly. Clothe us with regal garments. Hey, even Joseph had his coat of many colors. Feed us and quench our spiritual thirst with heavenly nectar. He calls us to be butterflies, desires us to become butterflies.

Only one problem. We start off as caterpillars.

Sure, we're cute caterpillars. But, we're still caterpillars. We crawl around on the ground with our furry little bodies and just live caterpillar lives. Eat, sleep, work, grow. Eat, sleep, work, grow. And maybe, climb. And that's it. It gets boring. Monotonous. We get sick of doing the same thing over and over again. It gets us nowhere. We climb, but we want to fly. We eat, but we're sick of leaves. And besides, those birds look pretty dangerous and we can't crawl fast enough.....It's time for a change.

That's where the chrysalis comes in.

Chrysalis. Cocoon. The place of change. It's dark in there. It's lonely in there. And probably very confining. Just you and yourself and whatever mysterious forces will change you into that flying wonder you call a butterfly.

So many times we stop short of the butterfly dream. We get so complacent with caterpillar life that we forget we're destined to fly. Sometimes, we tell ourselves that the lonliness and the isolation from all we know isn't worth the risk, and we turn our backs on our destiny. Others, we feel the cocoon isn't doing it's job fast enough, and we abort our own change. We make so many excuses, and God watches with tears in his eyes. For every caterpillar that turns into a butterfly is a testimony. You can make it. You can soar on the wind, and go higher than the highest you've ever climbed with catterpillar legs. You can drink the sweet nectar of spiritual fulfillment. You can become a part of the beauty of holiness. You can become a butterfly. You can become one.

It doesn't take luck. Only a little faith.

It may be hard giving up what you're used to. The life you've been living has it's advantages. But just think of what you'll gain. The freedom of flight, the beauty of true life, the joy of a dream finally achieved.

No one ever said change was easy.

Go ahead. Weave your cocoon. Take that leap of faith. You will change. No one else may see it, but you will. And one day you'll emerge a shimmering wonder that takes it's place among the clouds....

Don't give up on the chrysalis. I just know you want to fly.....
