academics and work

I recently finished my MSc in speech-language pathology at the University of Western Ontario.  My thesis has to do with the relationships between standardized expressive language tests, their developmental sensitivity, and their ability to distinguish kids with normal language development from kids with disordered language development.  I'm working on posting my thesis. The Intro is up already, so you can get a taste of what it's all about.

My undergrad degree is from the University of TorontoThe program was Exceptionality in Human Learning, and it consisted of mostly biology and psychology courses.  I miss my undergrad thesis supervisor, James.  His neurobiology courses rocked.

I grew up on a farm in near northern Ontario, in the town of Huntsville.  I highly recommend it as a place to raise kids.

After I finished school in 1998, I married Greg and we moved to Orangeville. In the summer of 2002, as I was hugely pregnant with our first child, we moved to Cambridge. I'm still working as an SLP in a small hospital in a small town in Wellington County. I love my job (although the paperwork part of it is kind of yucky). Working with little kids is a lot of fun. I'm going to miss them while I'm on my maternity leave!

Reading is a big thing with me.  I've been on an Arthurian legend  kick for the last couple of years, and I'm just starting to explore Y Mabinogion.  I love Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles, and it's nice to know where they came from.  In an effort to get the most out of the Celtic myths, I'm even learning some  Welsh pronunciation.

I used to write a lot, but I don't anymore.  I don't know why.

Outside is a good place to be.  Canoe trips rate highly, as do long walks along deserted beaches.  I started rollerblading last year, and it's a great way to get around.

I live amongst piles of magazines, books, papers, and other clutter, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  Contrary to my mother's belief, I do know where everything is.
