Ben vs. El Nino

Trigo Avenue, Isla Vista, California
During the peak of the storm season, Santa Barbara was hit hard with a record amount of rainfall. It recieved more rainfall during the months of January and February than the entire two winter seasons of 1995 and 1996. Floods destroyed many local businesses and shut down schools. Students at the University of California at Santa Barbara made the best of what had happened and used the floods as a reason to celebrate. Ben Henry, member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and many of his brothers, used the floods as an oppurtunity to practice their waterskiing/surfing by being pulled by a friends truck. This caught the attention of many onlookers as well as CBS Los Angeles and CNN.
