Vernon Tom Cloward

ΚΚ Vernon Tom Cloward passed away at home on Sunday, May 2,1999. He fought emphysema for several years.

ΚΚ Born October 7, 1935 in Salina, UT to Charles and Alice Cloward. Graduate of North Sevier High School. Married Nina Joy Hoopes on March 31, 1955 in Fortuna, CA. They have been married for 44 years. Member of LDS Church.

ΚΚ Vern retired after nearly 30 years in the elevator business, working primarily for Kimball (later U.S.) Elevator Company in Salt Lake City. He had also worked in the roofing, flooring and construction businesses. He could build or fix anything, and was always willing to do so if asked. Vern loved to golf (2 career holes-in-one), fish, boat, hunt, watch NASCAR, and coach the Jazz. He raced stock cars before deciding to grow up. His greatest love was always his wife, Nina and his family. His sense of fairness, wisdom and common sense made him a frequent advisor when any of us had problems or questions.

ΚΚ He is preceded in death by his father, Charles. ΚΚ He left behind his wife, Nina and three children: Kerralee (and Jim) Lloyd, KelliDee (and Dean) George, and Tom (and Carin) Cloward. He is survived by his grandchildren Jamilee (and Micheal) Checketts, Jenilyn, Derek, and Daren Lloyd, Dani (and Justin) McCulley, Dustin George and Oliver. He is also survived by his mother, Alice, brothers, Rodney (Floris) Cloward and Kendal (Shirlene) Cloward, sister, Irene (Bart) Curtis and his nephews, nieces, aunts and cousins.

ΚΚ He will miss his golfing, fishing, work and church buddies, and their family members. His dog, Lacey, will keep his chair warm. The family would also like to express their gratitude for the thoughtful and careful care of Dr. Nathan Dean and his staff.

ΚΚ Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8, 1999 at 2 p.m., Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, where friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services.
