Fungi

Characteristics of Fungi-
* obtain nutrients by absorbing nutrients from an outside source
* multicellular
* range in size from so small can't be seen by the naked eye to being one of the biggest multicelluar organisms known.
* one of the foremost decomposers of organic material
* to get nutrients their body sends out digestive fluids to break down food outside the body and then the fungi absorbs the food through its cell walls

Reproduction-
* Most fungi reproduce by making tiny spores.
* Spores contain one or more nuclei and are usually haploid.
* Some fugi produce asexual spores.
* In mushrooms there are two mating types, called plus and minus strains. If these two strains fuse, sexual reproduction occurs.
*Many fungi reprduce by the fragmentaton of their hyphaie. Each fragment develops in a new one.
* Yeast reproduces by budding.
