    Story:

Dissonance is a phenomenon that exists in direct parallel to mysterious power that has been dubbed Resonance. This enigmatic reservoir of natural energy can be best described as a consequence or by-product of Resonance use, manifesting as living beings tap into the their Resonance potential and take advantage of its effects. Normally, this energy would not something that any living creature, no matter how great their awareness was, would be able to notice. However, the Third Space War's sudden emphasis on Resonance weaponry and combat techniques caused a corresponding spike in the amount of Dissonance that permeates throughout the Earth Sphere. With the Newtype Corps' being one of the few group's conscious of this reality, it comes as no surprise that they would produce mobile weapons like Testament to take full advantage of it.

The Testament is a limited production mobile suit, with only a few units having rolled off the assembly line and out into the field. Given the level of uncertainty surrounding the effectiveness of Dissonance devices, and that few pilots are even capable of handling the energy form, the Newtype Corps was not prepared to take chances assembling an army of machines that they could not use. Besides, the Testament, on its own, is a very costly design, incorporating both pure Divinium and the Cerberus Core, which are expensive and unpredictable elements taken from the infamous War Saints, and therefore not easily constructed.

The Dissonance Matrix onboard the Testament is calibrated for a single function: to create a nearly indestructible defensive barrier around the mobile suit. In simple terms, the unit can surround itself with a transparent field that intercepts and deflects any attack levelled at it. The nature of Dissonance intensifies the effects even moreso when combating Resonance-using weaponry (though it does, in theory, have a breaking point), making the Testament the Corps' ultimate trump card against its technologically advanced adversaries. The bulky nature of the Dissonance-using equipment, however, forces the suit to mount portions of it inside the gigantic back assembly that it carries.

The Testament's back unit also houses its hyperpulse engines, which use laser-ignited propellant and plasma reactions to achieve high top speeds and to travel long distances. It's experimental anti-gravity craft system allows it to hover in an atmosphere for unlimited lengths of time, giving this behemoth full flight capabilities. In addition, despite the taxing nature of the Dissonance Matrix, the Cerberus Core operates with a large enough surplus of energy to give the suit's beam weapons a significant boost for their size. Each of the Buster cannons along its chest are capable of causing significant damage to, if not destroying, a conventional mobile suit in a single shot. The arm-mounted beam swords operate in a similar capacity. Alone, a single Testament could easily take on a warship, and come out the winner without contest.
