Like the Dancer, Zaku, and Fox, the core Silhouette unit is a balanced mobile suit that makes the most of its engine core in attribute performance. It prevents any strain on its systems by keeping a simple arsenal: a beam rifle, support vulcans, and a pair of beam sabres. While not as strong as suits like the Gouf or Alastor, the Silhouette does match the Zaku, and has even more in common with the Fox, especially when it comes to armor. The machine features Luna Titanium, a Transphase alloy designed to activate a shielding charge at the point of an attack's impact, enhancing durability. While very effective against conventional weapons, however, it helps only a little against beam attacks. Still, it is enough to help make even the unequipped Silhouette a worthy combatant.
Mass production and deployment of the Silhouette had begun less then a month before the war's apocalyptic climax. It was ultimately meant to replace the Revelator, though on a limited basis, as many Corps strategists still preferred that mobile suit. To that end, only a few dozen Silhouettes were ever rolled out, to say nothing of the number of augmentation packs that were completed. While over a half dozen were on the drawing board, only a few have ever been seen in the post-war world. One of these is the Aile pack, which gives the suit full atmospheric flight capabilities and added agility. Another, the Gunner pack, adds a long range particle beam cannon and supporting machine cannon mount. Some surviving Silhouettes have been given custom packs and colors designed by their owners. One such unit is Alexandra Kennedy's "Shooting Star," which features a green and grey paint scheme and options her unique Shroud Pack. This offers a folding camouflage cloak, upper-body armor, a set of high-powered floodlights, and verniers designed to let the suit skim a few meters above the surface of any terrain.
