    Story:

During the first two Space Wars, the Armatech Syndicate had been one of the very few firms with the ability to mass produce mobile suits. This quickly changed in the years to follow, as several organizations began studying and marketing this technology. Terrified by the growing number of competitors arising, the syndicate organized a division to create its own cheap, easy-to-produce mobile suit for the open market. In record time, this group reported back with the Puma, a very basic humanoid unit with elements lifted directly from the company's earlier Dingo mobile suit, albeit with some size and structural amendments. Debuting almost five years before the Third Space War, the Puma was undoubtedly one of the most common mobile weapons of its time.

The Puma's design takes a cue from the old Ark Nova-built Braver, the United Alliance's Soldati, and similar machines that stand in a long line of general purpose units. To this end, it possesses even performance levels and a wide variety of optional weapons which allow the suit to be fitted with for several different missions, or with whatever is available. Despite the generic look of the machine, however, it does have innovative features, such as its colloid bracer; a medium shield that releases gas particles over its surface, giving it the ability to deflect incoming beam attacks. In addition, as the Third Space War progressed, it was discovered that only simple modifications were needed to make the Puma compatible with two optional weapon packs that had been designed for the United Alliance's Fox (itself a descendent of the Puma)

Being such a common sight before and during the third war, it comes as no surprise that the Puma remains as such following its climax. Pilots like it for its versatility, especially if they are able to get their hands on a number of optional weapons or even one of the coveted Fox augmentation packs. Mechanics like both the simplicity of its design and its wide compatibility with spare parts from a number of different sources. Components from the old Dingo and Fox series,' Ark Orion Zakus, and even a few Newtype Corps and Grand Cross models can be used to patch up a Puma in no time at all. This kind of reliability makes up for the lower performance levels it has when compared to other machines of its time, ensuring that the suit still has a long life ahead of it.
