To everyone's surprise, the group's work brought some amazing results. Taking the Alliance proposal, the team came back with a quadruped design that could maneuver faster over terrain than a two-legged suit. The installation of high-speed treads and hover jets in each leg gave the Leopard the ability not just to run over obstacles, but to jump, drive, or float as well. In addition, the machine's lower profile makes it more difficult to hit, while its frame accommodates a great deal of heavy armor. In terms of weapons, keeping the suit agile required its creators to cut down on the super-heavy arsenals typical to the old walkers. Instead, they combined the option to carry a few powerful armaments, giving this quick "cat" a sharp bite.
Supervisors from the United Alliance Armed Forces absolutely loved the Leopard, so much so that it has replaced every other walker design, as well as the Orion mobile suit. Its combination of high speed, heavy armor, and hard striking power make it perfect for small squadrons exploring the vastness of Earth's countryside and wastelands. With its optional electronic intelligence (elint) package, it can flush out even the most carefully hidden objectives, and also act as mobile communications relay for long-distance messages. The Leopard also has more room for supplies than a typical mobile suit, making a preferred unit for long field missions. The excellent reception of the standard model has even provoked the creation of a slightly faster, and even more armored, variant for commanders. This particular unit is identified by its rectangular turbines and blade-crested head.
